HISTORY OF THE EAU
On May 13, 1990, with the direct participation of the USSR Academy of Sciences, the USSR State Committee for Science and Technics, the Scientific and Industrial Union of the USSR, the Union of Scientific and Engineering Societies of the USSR, as well as twenty profile union and republican ministries and departments, the Engineering Academy of the USSR was created, which then of four regional subdivisions, one of which was the East-Ukrainian branch located in Kharkov.
In connection with the rapid development of the USSR Engineering Academy and its branches, by the end of 1990 the East Ukrainian branch of the USSR EA received the status of a republican branch. And in November 1991 the Engineering Academy of Ukraine was registered by the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.

Podgorny Anatoly Nikolaevich (1932-1996)
One of the initiators of the creation and the first president of the Engineering Academy of Ukraine was Anatoly Podgorny (1932-1996) - an outstanding scientist, talented organizer, academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Honored Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine. Under his leadership, the academy was established as an all-Ukrainian organization that unites the efforts of engineers, scientists, industries and organizations in accelerating scientific and technological progress in key areas of the country's development. In 1994, on the initiative of the EAU and its direct participation, the first in Ukraine intergovernmental agreement with Turkmenistan was concluded in the amount of $ 600 million.

Paton Boris Evgenievich (1918-2020)
The history of the Academy is closely connected with the name Paton (1918-2020) - Soviet and Ukrainian scientist in the field of metallurgy and metal technology, doctor of technical sciences, professor. Since 1962 - President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
By 1995, a solid foundation of the EAU was formed – 82 full members and 123 corresponding members from among prominent Ukrainian scientists, engineers and production organizers became members of the Academy. More than 100 enterprises became the collective members of the academy, among which A. OK. Antonova (Kiev), OJSC “Turboatom”, State Enterprise “Kharkov Machine-Building Plant” FED “, OJSC” Plant “Yuzhkabel”, Industrial Group UPEK (Kharkov), State Enterprise Scientific and Production Complex of Gas Turbine Building “Zorya” – ” Mashproekt “(Nikolaev), ZMKB” Progress “named after A.G. Ivchenko (Zaporozhye), Poltavagazdobycha Gas Industry Department, etc.
Significant scientific and practical research was carried out by members of the Academy in the field of aviation engine building (academician F.M. Muravchenko – general designer of ZMKB Progress named after A.G. Ivchenko), turbine engineering (academician Yu.F. Kosyak – chief designer of the Kharkov turbine plant) , rocket science (academician S.M. Konyukhov – chief designer of Yuzhnoye design bureau), new construction technologies (academician O.L. Shagin – head of the department of the Kharkiv National University of Civil Engineering and Architecture), new approaches to land reclamation (academician Tishchenko O.I., Head of the Department of the State Institute of Management and Economics of Water Resources), the development of new synthetic fabrics (academician Stupa V.I. – General Director of JSC “Khimtekstilmash”).
In 1996, the Academy founded the journal “Bulletin of the Engineering Academy of Ukraine”, which was included in the list of scientific publications of the Higher Attestation Commission of Ukraine.
The Academy and its members participated in more than 20 international scientific and technical programs, in 14 state programs related to environmental safety, non-traditional energy, the development of organic farming, the use of secondary resources, the development of new materials, engines, steam and hydraulic turbines.
Since its foundation, the members Academy have become 11 Heroes of Ukraine, 7 People’s Deputies, 52 laureates of State Prizes in the field of science and technology, 256 heads of industrial enterprises, directors of research and design organizations, rectors of higher educational institutions. 103 members of the Academy have the title of Honored Worker of Science and Technology.
